Work Daze – Alysha Peart, CEO of Her World Hair

Welcome to Work Daze – a day in the life of a black woman doing great things in the workplace and making waves in her industry. This month, Alysha Peart lets us into her working life – which is a very interesting one, as she is the CEO and founder of her own luxury wig company, Her World Hair, based in China

Name: Alysha Peart
Age: 30
Occupation: Founder of Her World Hair
City you live in: Shenzhen, China
Personal motto: ‘Be the best, do the most and learn something new everyday!’

8.00am: As I live in China and the times I wake up vary depending on projects I run with the UK, each working day starts off at a different time. But when I have an earlier day, I wake up and speak out my ‘Gratitude Affirmations’ – which is me stating what I’m thankful for. I then watch my mind map, which is a virtual vision board that I created on PowerPoint. This shows everything I want to achieve, from my ideal diet to the house in Thailand I want to purchase.

8.15am: I shower and eat some fruit and drink Chinese green or Oolong tea in ‘The Studio’, which is my apartment turned hair studio and office. My flat overlooks the sea, and the city of Shenzhen and Hong Kong, which is beautiful. Asia is awake by now, and the factories are opening so I speak with my manufacturers to deal with any ongoing or new orders. Our clientele is based in the UK and Europe, so I make sure that our wonderful customers are receiving their wigs on time. I ship off any hair that has been tested to our wig makers, who are based here in China. Speaking fluent Chinese allows me to get things processed and organised quite quickly.

9.00am: I make my social media content plan for the day and respond to any calls, messages and DMs. I stay on Instagram to build relationships with our influencers and followers.

11.30am: Her World Hair is unique because I get to source the hair myself and build close relationships with our suppliers, so I normally head out to meetings with those I’m working close with a few days of the week. Meetings normally include a full course Chinese style lunch, with many different dishes on a round turning table.

1.00pm: I head back home and have a nap if I didn’t get enough hours in last night. Otherwise I create social media and brainstorm projects on my whiteboard.

4.00pm: This is when the UK and the rest of Europe are awake, so I log into our live messaging system on our website two days of the week. The other three days, I’m checking and updating the content on our website.

5.00pm: I leave my apartment and cycle to the metro station, and then get on a train to go to my teaching job. I do private tutoring, teaching English to mainly teach 4-6-year olds. This is my preferred age as the child’s imagination is so bright, it helps me to get out of my business mindset for a moment and be childish again. Their families are lovely and interacting with them is my secret to learning so much about Chinese culture, which I apply when conducting business!

9.00pm: Private classes complete, I head back to ‘The Studio’, where my hair technician will be waiting. He colours and cuts the hair in the styles desired by our customers and the influencers we work with.

1.00am: The UK has finally left work and I can get to contacting and business developing online. There is something about that immediate communication that I like, so I respond to comments, do market research, and stay on social media to do some engaging and posting.

2.30am: I squeeze in a call with my family before going to bed. Thanks to all these video apps it’s so easy to do. I normally get a ‘what? It’s 3am there, go to bed!’ from my worried mother, then reality hits that I should go to bed.

3.00am: I put on one of my favourite podcasts: either Side Hustle Pro or the Unofficial Shopify podcast and go to bed in the hope that I will wake up even wiser.
