4th – 15th: Take Me Back (Stockwell, London)

If you missed this highly-spirited, gospel musical when it hit the stage earlier this year, then you’re in luck – as Angie Le Mar’s masterpiece returns for 10 performances. Written by, and starring Le Mar, who’s known as one of Britain’s leading talents in comedy, this show tells the story of two young girls in the Eighties, dealing with growing up in a strict black community church. We see their lives develop over the years since their friendship first started, as bright-eyed kids at Sunday School – and what binds them through time. It’s a real, all-round treat that promises to take all its audience members down memory lane.

14th: Guy Barker’s Big Band Christmas (London)

Jazz up the festival period with a soulful night with BBC Radio 2 presenter Guy Barker and special guests. ‘The Times’ claims that this event ‘gives us a glimpse of why big bands used to be the voice of a generation’. This is a night that will banish cases of the ‘Bah Humbugs’ with jazz classics and Christmas oldies with a twist and a shuffle.

All month: Skylight (London)

Whether you can stay upright for long or not, ice-skating is a Christmas staple – and the people at Skylight take the fun sport to new heights, literally. The East London rooftop hangout has switched its look from being summer’s hot spot, to a cozy winter fortress with fondue, seasonal cocktails and igloos. If skating’s not your thing, no worries – as you can still enter, and take in the sights of the city for free. As the highest ice rink in the city, it surely makes a perfect Instagram moment – so have cameras at the ready!
