Pride speaks to founder of Virgos Lounge Oyeyemi Wemi-Akinsola – she fills us in on the bridal favourite, and plans for the SS20 season
Hi Oyeyemi! Tell me about the style of Virgos Lounge.
Our brand’s aesthetic is based on our love for vintage fashion, combining contemporary silhouettes, trends and colours with classic vintage styles to create unique pieces for the modern woman.
What was the inspiration behind the latest collection?
For the colder months, we love the darker and classic hues such as navy and emerald greens. More glam styles and silhouettes inspire us for the AW19 season; this means more embellishments and more statement pieces at the core of the collection. The heavy embellished tuxedo style dresses in the collection will be the highlight of every woman’s closet.
What has been the highlight of starting the brand?
Virgos Lounge has been the go-to for brides shopping for their bridesmaids. However, 2016 brought the debut of our first Bridal Collection made for the modern and alternative bride looking to make a statement on her big day! This year’s collection features fit and flare lines, shoulder-baring silhouettes and dramatic yet intricate details.
How has your heritage influenced your designs?
Coming from an African background the vibrant colours are in the core of our culture and in the core of or brand, which inspires the reinventions of our classic styles.
And finally, what’s in store for next season?
For SS20, we’ve come out to play! Expect retro prints amongst pastels and summer brights.
