Shape Up For Summer – Part 2

Team Pride decided it was time to get into shape. This week we feature Afua Adom who took on Power Plate over two weeks to help her get rid that pregnancy weight.

The Facts:
Weight before: 11st
Weight after: 10st 8lbs
Body Goal: Shift the last of my baby weight
Exercise: Power plate
Secret weapon: Cambridge Weight Plan

It’s no secret that I’ve had a bit of a battle with the weight I put on during pregnancy and the cake-fuelled days of maternity leave. Thankfully, it’s come off pretty easily thanks to Cambridge Weight Plan. Now, I have just a little way to go and I wanted to throw some exercise into the mix, as I haven’t done any for ages. Power Plate is low impact so it works perfectly with Cambridge Weight Plan as the very low calorie diet means I can’t burn too many calories. Bring on the buzz!

Day 1:

I don’t really know what to expect from Power Plate but my main worry is that I’ll be absolutely starving after exercising on a really low calorie diet. I needn’t have worried. My first session is of a normal Power Plate class with one other person at the Good Vibes studio in Covent Garden. As I step on the vibrating plate it feels so weird and makes me feel slightly sick but as soon as I bend my knees a bit I feel better. We launch into some squats, lunges, planks, tricep dips – you name it we did it. You do reps of 15 of each exercise using weights to make it harder and in 25 minutes you’re done! The next day I ache something chronic but I’m not any hungrier than usual so I’m pleased.

Day 3:

I’m doing a Power Plate toning class today, which differs from the usual Power Plate class, as it’s more about toning up and core strength. Since having my daughter, I’ve had lower back pain and have no real core strength so this class was a bit daunting for me. I told my class teacher Kasey about my fears and she developed a range of exercises to strengthen my core, therefore alleviating my lower back pain and bringing my tummy muscles back to where they were pre-baby. She even recommended some exercises to do at home to hopefully get my washboard stomach back!

Day 10:

I’ve done five classes in 10 days and the aching arms and legs have gone! I’m used to the vibration by now and the massage with the super high vibrations at the end of the class feels amazing on my hard-working legs. I’ve also tried a Power Plate ballet class which was amazing – it mixes up ballet steps with your usual moves and even though it’s tough it’s a whole lot of fun.

Day 14:

I’m not going to lie; I’m pretty disappointed that our two-week fitness burst is over. I’ve really enjoyed my Power Plate classes – it’s been a great way to re-introduce exercise into my life as well as strenghthen my core and lower back. It’s been surprisingly easy to combine it with Cambridge Weight Plan – the only effect it has had is I’ve had to drink much more water. Add to that I’ve boosted my weight loss and now I’m closer to my pre-baby body than I ever was. Bring on that bikini!
