Michelle Obama criticised for putting children first

Michelle Obama has been criticised for admitting she puts her daughters before her role as the First Lady. In another of her inspiring speeches, Michelle spoke at the Democratic National Conference on Tuesday evening, as she tried to persuade voters to re-elect her husband, US Barack Obama ahead of the upcoming November elections.

In her widely praised speech, Michelle expressed how much she loves her two daughters, Sasha and Malia and touched on the fact that they, and not her role as First Lady, are the main priority in her life. “At the end of the day, my most important title is still ‘mom in chief.’ My daughters are still the heart of my heart and the center of my world,”

Unfortunately not everyone was a fan of her speech, a New York Times journalist, who has criticised Michelle before, took issue with the speech and accused Mrs Obama of perpetuating a stereotype that only serves to hinder with children who are looking to get ahead in the professional world. It seems that whatever the First Lady does there’s always someone waiting in the wings to tear her down…

What do you think? Should Michelle have expressed such sentiments in such a public and important setting?
