Lupita Nyong’o triumphs at the Oscars

It was a ‘Yes’ moment audible around the globe last night as Lupita Nyong’o picked up the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.

The talented newcomer, who blew audiences and Academy members alike away with her flawless performance in 12 Years A Slave, was clearly overwhelmed as her name was read out, taking to the stage in her Cinderella-like, Nairobi blue, Prada gown with tears in her eyes.

The actress, who beat out competition from the likes of Jennifer Lawrence and Julia Roberts, delivered a flawless speech worthy of her performance thanking her cast and crew, director Steve McQueen, as well as her family and friends, before telling the packed room that “no matter where you’re from, your dreams are valid.”
