Let’s not forget about Haiti

Health authorities in Haiti are fighting to keep the deadly outbreak of cholera out of the camps where 1.3 million Haitians live. A multinational response has slowed down the over-coming epidemic, that has already taken the lives of 259 people.

A senior U.N official spoke to Marie Claire saying that the fight wasn’t over, and that there was still more to do “We must gear up for a serious epidemic, even though we hope it won’t happen,” says Nigel Fisher, the United Nations humanitarian coordinator in Haiti. In order to educate the masses, a health education campaign is underway, using radio announcements in Creole and even sms text messages to people’s phones.

Let’s just hope all their efforts are not in vain and people continue to donate to the relief work.
