Jessica Ennis-Hill announces she’s expecting

Fans of Olympic gold medal-winning heptathlete Jessica Ennis-Hill were disappointed to hear that the star athlete would not be competing at this year’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Little did they know that the reason for her no show was less down to injury and more down to a “very unexpected” bun in the oven.

Speaking about her New Year’s surprise, the 27-year-old, who married longtime partner Andy Hill this past May said, “My plans for 2014 have been completely turned upside down, but having had a couple of weeks to think about things from a career point of view I am 100% set on returning to full time athletics once our baby is born and go for a second gold medal at the Rio Olympics in 2016 – that challenge really excites me. But in the short term I will make our baby a priority and enjoy the whole experience as much as possible.”

Ennis-Hill has had a frustrating time of things following her triumphant showing at the London 2012 Olympic games. 2013 saw her plagued by an ankle injury which hampered her ability to compete. This time however, at least she’ll be out of action for altogether happier reasons. Congratulations Jess!
