Haye and Chisora face life bans for bust-up

It was a disgraceful evening event that shocked the boxing world and brought British boxers into disrepute. Dereck Chisora was questioned by Munich police and later released without charge over the ugly fracas. David Haye, the former Heavyweight Champion had in turn gone into hiding, with the promise by his trainer that he would indeed return to Munich to comply with the German authorities. But how did the evening turn from a boxing match between Chisora and his opponent Vitali Klitschko into what some might regard as a street brawl?

The scenes of violence erupted after warring words between Chisora, on the news conference dais and Haye at the back of the press room. Chisora left the stage, approached Haye and went nose to nose before appearing to push the former champion and initiate the unpleasant scenes that lasted several minutes. After punches were aimed at one another, the two men grappled on the floor, knocking over cameras and tripods, with both entourages becoming embroiled in the scene of mayhem. Haye has since issued a statement about the evening’s events, laying all the blame on Chisora claiming that Chisora, “caused the fight and some members of his entourage caused the ruckus.”

Having disgraced the sport as well as the face of British boxing and with the investigation still continuing, both men now face bans for life.
