Get fit for summer!

With summer already here, NHS Choices asked women if they were happy with their bikini body, and 86% said no.

The survey also highlighted that most women felt least confident about their stomach (66%) and thighs (25%). To help combat fitness fatigue, and get people back on track, ready to flaunt their figures on the beach, NHS Choices is launching its ‘Get Ready For Summer’ online fitness campaign. The ‘Get Ready For Summer’ campaign involves people signing up and choosing from one of four free health and fitness plans – losing weight, healthy eating, getting fit, or training to run a 5k race. Each action pack will allow people to sign up for daily emails with motivational tips and advice so they can feel supported throughout the process.

Another recent survey by NHS Choices revealed that social networks – friends, partners and even work colleagues are the most important motivator for people trying to stick to diet and fitness plans, but their good intentions often trailed off when that support was no longer available. Jeanette Kwakye, 2012 Olympic runner, advises, “It takes discipline and hard work to achieve our fitness goals, but getting started is the hardest part. Running is a great way to lose weight and claim that beach body that everyone wants, and the ‘Get Ready For Summer’ plan will keep you motivated for the long term, even after friends and family lose interest!” With Facebook and the daily email alerts we think that people will have that additional support and therefore be more inclined to succeed in reaching their personal fitness goals. So come on girls – make this summer your best yet! To sign up for your action pack, visit www.nhs.uk/summer or text SUMMER to 64746 for more information.
