BRIT Awards holds its own against American counterparts

Anything they can do we can do better. Or just as well. The 2012 BRIT Awards showed the Grammys that we can do award shows just as well. With a bigger and bolder look than ever before, the night saw a slew of big name stars that included the likes of Rihanna, Adele, Bruno Mars, Jessie J, JLS, Alexandra Burke, to name but a few.

Performances of the night belonged to the likes of Adele, Bruno Mars and Rihanna who showed just why they continue to be regarded as the biggest stars in the world right now. With an electrifying performance that included a sexy dance routine and paint balling on stage, Rihanna held her own in the vocal department, impressing with her live performance of “We Found Love” after a thoroughly deserved win for ‘Best International Female’.

Adele who one two BRITs for ‘Best Female Solo Artist’ and the coveted ‘MasterCard British Album of the Year’ for “21” was the big winner of the night declaring, “Nothing makes me more happy than winning six Grammys and than coming home and winning two BRITS.” She was also involved in the only controversial moment of a relatively tame BRIT awards. Host James Corden cut off the singer mid sentence as she accepted her award for best album, leading to boos from the crowd and a middle-finger from Adele herself.

Other winners of the night included Emeli Sande, Ed Sheeran, Lana Del Rey, Coldplay and Bruno Mars. The awards ceremony also paid touching tributes to stars Whitney Houston and Amy Winehouse.
