Diane Abbott Suspended (Again), Apparently for the Crime of Being a Black Woman With Opinions

In today’s episode of Labour Can’t Seem to Get Out of Its Own Way, Diane Abbott — the UK’s first Black woman MP and perpetual scapegoat-in-residence — has been freshly suspended from the Labour Party. Her offence? Reopening the conversation about her 2023 comments on racism, which some party leaders apparently find more threatening than actual racism itself.

While Boris Johnson can pen entire novels of offensive prose and still get invited to dinner, Abbott gets benched for speaking about the nuances of discrimination — the kind that actually affects real people with real melanin.

This move, wrapped in the usual “we’re just following protocol” nonsense, highlights what many Black Britons already know: representation is tolerated as long as it doesn’t talk back. As Labour polishes its progressive veneer, it seems there’s still no room at the table for outspoken Black women who refuse to be politically palatable.

And what’s at stake here isn’t just Diane’s political future, it’s the subtle message being whispered to every Black woman watching: you may break glass ceilings, but never get too comfortable under the shards.

It’s not just a suspension; it’s a symptom. And the silence from her supposed allies? Deafening.
